Daniel Cunningham's Call to Japan Began With Two Words: Just Go

Daniel Cunningham had built the life he thought he wanted. He had a strong career, good money and an apartment in Sydney. Yet he says he felt empty and close to ending his life.

In his Build For Good conversation with Aaron O'Sullivan, Daniel shares the prayer that changed his path. He says a wind filled his closed apartment, brought him to his knees and was followed by a clear message about Jesus.

"Daniel, it's Jesus. If you follow me, I'll save you."

That moment did not give Daniel a neat or easy life. It gave him a new centre. His story moved from chasing status and spiritual power to telling people about Jesus.

How Deliverance Down Under began

Daniel says the ministry began with a simple sign in Brisbane's red-light district. He saw a man holding the words "Jesus saves" and "Jesus loves you". Daniel did not know much about street evangelism, but he knew he wanted to join in.

He and his wife later started Deliverance Down Under. Their work now includes street evangelism, Christian testimony videos, prayer and teaching about deliverance.

Daniel says the first testimony video they made reached far more people than they expected. They kept filming. The Deliverance Down Under YouTube channel now carries testimonies, evangelism videos and teaching.

He is clear about the aim. The focus is not on making demons the centre of the story.

"We're focusing on people getting free from demons."

Why Japan matters to Daniel

Daniel had loved Japan and studied Japanese long before he became a Christian. He once planned to move to Tokyo for work. That plan ended during the COVID lockdowns, but his interest in the country stayed.

Years later, he says he prayed about how that part of his life could be used. While listening to Japanese worship music, he began to cry. He says he saw a picture of a red envelope and heard two words: "Just go."

Daniel and a team then spent a month in Japan. They shared the gospel at Shibuya Crossing, worked with local Christians, visited homes and held two revival nights. Daniel says people were saved, healed and delivered during the trip. These are his own accounts of what the team saw.

He also went to a revival gathering in Okinawa. He says the room fell to its knees and cried out for Japan.

"My heart for Japan is huge."

The next step

Daniel says he and his wife hope to return to Japan and help start a church in Tokyo. He wants it to be open through the week and to train people for evangelism, prayer and service.

The work needs more than speakers. Daniel talks about people who can pray, give, teach, host visitors, encourage teams or help with practical skills. His message is simple: start with what is already in your hands.

"Jesus already sent you."
